SMOOTHIE TIME!Soothie Time!

Today I am doing something a little different and posting a recipe for an after workout smoothie I created the other day that I thought others would enjoy. Post-workout nutrition is very important. There is a narrow window of time right after your workout that your body is primed and ready to receive nutrients. Contrary to what most people think, exercise itself does not BUILD muscle, actually exercise, especially weight training causes microscopic tears in the muscle fibers. The RE-BUILDING of the muscle tissues is what makes the muscles bigger and stronger.  Going more than a few hours without food, especially after a workout deprives your body of material to re-build those tired muscles! An easy and nutritious way to fill in the gaps is a tasty smoothie. My friend Dennis Hardy has a great Strawberry Smoothie recipe on his website. http://dennishardy.com/ I came up with this one the other day because I ran out of frozen strawberries! I will be posting more recipes occasionally. Nothing better than a nice cold smoothie after a hard P90X workout!

Scott’s Pineapple Delight Smoothie

1   12 oz can of chunk pineapple, juice and all (you can use fresh or can)

1/2 cup Orange Juice

1/2 cup skim milk (use whole if you like, I keep fat-free at the house)

2 bananas (I freeze over-ripe bananas in the freezer esp. for smoothie duty) or use fresh

2 scoops of vanilla whey protein powder

2 scoops of P90X Recovery Formula (orange flavored and very tasty on own but great addition to a smoothie too)

About 2 cups of ice (more or less according to preference)

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend till smooth (for better results put in liquid ingredients in first). I make a blender full and freeze the remainder in cups in my freezer for a quick snack/pick-me-up. Feel free to add more fruit if you like… I have made this same type smoothie with canned fruit cocktail, pears, oranges, strawberries and blueberries. I am also not the type to measure ingredients out real carefully either. I just fill up the blender and go!

Give it a try and then let me know what you think. The pineapple is VERY refreshing, especially after a grueling P90X workout.!!

God Bless You!

I would love to hear from you!
