Scott’s P90X Tips
Those familiar with P90X and have done a few P90X workouts know that P90X resistance exercises are nothing fancy. There are no gadgets, no gimmicks; just real basic workout moves push-ups, pull-ups, fly’s, squats, & lunges. The trick is INTENSITY and VARIATION. If you bring the INTENSITY required to put in the quality and quantity into each workout the VARATION of the workouts causes MUSCLE CONFUSION. Your muscles get worked in many different ways and they never can get used to one exercise. This is the key to REAL change. I have made more progress in the 50 plus days of P90X than a year and a half of working out in a gym.
The last two weeks I have been trying to eat a lot more often, eating small meals 5-6 times a day. I can’t exactly say I have eaten perfectly clean the last two weeks BUT it has helped keep my energy level up and prevented me from snacking on bad stuff between meals. Also I have started taking a flax oil capsule twice a day to give me essential fatty acids like Omega-3′s, which is very good for your cardiac health. A good multi-vitamin is VERY important to give your body all the vitamins and nutrients it needs to re-build after those grueling workouts! I highly recommend the P90X multi-vitamins.I also got some Creatine powder and have started drinking a dose first thing in the morning everyday and again after the resistance exercises on Monday. Wednesday, Friday. I have been able to feel a bit of a difference while working out and seem to have made more gains in size and strength the last 2 or more weeks I have been using the Creatine . The P90X Recovery drink has a very small amount of Creatine in it.
I would only recommend the Creatine to a male trying to increase muscle mass. Remember to keep those reps in the 8-10 range with MORE weight to build mass. Ladies, go with lower weights and higher reps to build lean muscle.
I also bought a new blender! I really missed having one. I have started making smoothies a lot more often. A little smoothie is a great way to get a healthy “snack” in between meals. Check here for my Pineapple Delight Smoothie recipe. I bought a tub of vanilla whey protein powder and have been using it in my smoothies. Very refreshing after a hard P90X workout! I think that the combination of using the Creatine and spreading my calorie intake out more (and actually taking in a few more), plus a LOT of hard work has really helped me in the last couple weeks. I feel a LOT stronger and can see some great difference already.
Time to REALLY “BRING IT” this last 40 or so days going into Phase 3.
